Still No Fishing: Fall Has Arrived

School is a terrible thing, at least when it interrupts more important things like fishing. I still haven't been fishing since my weekend trip to the Smokies several weeks ago. To keep from going insane, I have still managed to get outside a bit to climb and also to document the change of season. A few pictures of fall here in Tennessee...

The possibility exists for some fishing trips to finally start happening in the near future so check back for a report on that in a few days...

  1. Boooo! All homework and no fishing makes David a dull boy! Just kidding brother! I've been checking your site with frequency and keep seeing "Ridge Holds Strong"....So it's good to see the change...There's not a whole lotta fishing going on around my way either. My days are getting ready to rotate and I'll not be able to get out during those days! So you'll have to get out soon, to make my days not so dull! Hurry up and knock the dust off that Croix! Did you end up buying that Trout Bum?

  2. Brett, I haven't bought the Trout Bum yet but if I can figure out how to pay for it, I'll be heading up to LRO to purchase one...that is a sweet rod! I've been enjoying your reports on the SoHo...it looks like you're really getting that river figured out. I'll have to get some ideas from you soon as I'm hoping to head up there around Thanksgiving. I need to catch a big brown!!!

We were up in the park this weekend...stunning views, with the exception of some of the streams - we just missed out on the rain. We caught a few, but the fish weren't exactly smashing the flies. I missed more strikes than I care to admit. The traffic was incredible - I didn't see one hotel with a vacancy. That was probably it for us until next spring, although I'm so frustrated at missing those strikes, I'm tempted to head up again around Thanksgiving.

  4. Ijsouth, the fall is the worst time to try and find a place to stay around the park. I've learned to make my camping reservations at least two months ahead for the peak fall colors season...

Don't stay away until spring, winter provides some great solitude on the streams although the catching can be slow...

Oh, I love the winter in the park...we went up a couple of times last year. But, I have to be practical - with 3 kids in tow, if the action is slow to nonexistant, it's kind of boring for them, which means I would have to take them to Gatlinburg to compensate, which would in turn vaccum out my wallet. Buying that land has dried up any extra money, so I have to save up for our trips.

I have to admit, it's tough to wait that long...I would love to go up around Thanksgiving - perhaps there will be a chance.
