Guided Trips

FISHING REPORT AND SYNOPSIS: 07/01/2018

Heavy rains recently means the Caney Fork River is back up. Streamer fishing will be decent to good, but this is not for everyone. Fishing in the Smokies continues to be excellent.

Wet years normally produce some fantastic fishing in the Smokies and this year is no different. No matter where we fish, it seems that the fishing is amazing this year. We have seen some nice brown trout, big rainbows, and lots of good sized brook trout this year.

Now we are getting into standard summer terrestrial fishing. Ants, inch worms, beetles, and even occasionally hoppers are all getting it done.

On the Caney Fork, flows should start coming down within a week or two. Once we start seeing low water again, the usual nymphs and midges should produce along with some terrestrials and even streamers.

New Poll

What type of fishing do you want to see and hear about from my upcoming trip to Colorado? This is the topic of the new poll. We'll be spending some time on lakes as well chasing pike but I'm curious if you prefer reports on rivers like the Taylor, Gunnison, Frying Pan, and Green or would you prefer to see reports from high country small streams that consistently produce lots of small to average trout? Hopefully I'll be able to do an occasional update while on the road...actually I would say it is fairly likely. No, you probably won't be getting every last exciting detail but a few pictures will be better than waiting until we get back...

  1. Hey David. I know you are a die hard fly fisherman, but if you run across any of those spin fishermen, like myself, If they are catching anything, see what they are using. Might find something new that will work here. Have a great trip.
