Guided Trips

FISHING REPORT AND SYNOPSIS: 06/01/2018

Heavy rains the last couple of days means we will see high water on the tailwaters for the next week or two. Fishing in the Smokies is good to excellent though. That trend will continue as long as we keep getting rain. Brook trout fishing has been quite exceptional so far this year. Lower to mid elevation streams are still fishing well because of the increased flows due to the rainfall. Smallmouth bass streams on the Cumberland Plateau are a bit high but should be fishable again in the next few days.

Standing in Deep

My long awaited trip to the Smokies finally happened! I met a couple of fishing buddies for a weekend at Deep Creek Campground. Thursday and Friday brought a lot of rain to the mountains causing water levels to be just a little too high for optimal fishing. We made it work though and even found some good fishing. Best of all, the bugs were hatching, the fish were keying on Quill Gordons, and we caught plenty of fish on big dries. Life is good!

More coming soon including good times catching big fish...

  1. David,
Looking forward to your report and pics.

I really need to fish the Smokies more often, just not on weekends. I took the family up to Tremont on Saturday for pics. As we were driving out we counted 18 flyfishermen from the parking lot to the intersection. 12 of those were between the institute and the intersection.
